Steve
Lampert began grinding the axe in
’66 with his first guitar. “Learning
to play by ear rather than reading has given me the ability to do just about
anything given the time to pick it out. Whatever
I don’t get, I make up
something interesting
and complimentary (music).”
Steve
found himself in
Pecos
and later Bandera
doing more country than he cared for from ’80 to ’85 and continued to do
sit-ins as they came up. At the end
of ’85, Mirage
was formed with Mike Tibbs. “This
gave Mike and me a chance to learn each other’s styles, and as we began the
project, it was clear that the talent was there to begin doing something in the
classic rock genre.” As Mirage disintegrated at
the end of ’87, Mike, Steve and Larry formed the original line-up of Hourglass
