HOURGLASS formed in ’88, original members Steve Lampert (guitar and vocals), Mike Tibbs (drums and vocals) and Larry Lafferty (bass and vocals)

  • Entered the Waco Battle of Bands in ’88 and won 3rd place.

  • Entered the Waco Battle of Bands in ’89 and won 1st place for original material and overall.

  • Opened for the Fabulous Thunderbirds ’89 at Indian Springs Park in Waco

  • Mike Tibbs (wrist surgery) replaced by Mike Cooper on drums later in ‘89

  • With new line-up played first job at Cajun Daddies – ‘90 later became Sonny T’s

  • Began a very successful Chelsea Street Pub run in ‘90

  • Cooper leaves Hourglass in ’91 to return to school

The original line-up continued as a three piece and performed through the early ‘90s in places like The Laundry Bar, DJ’s (Wolf’s) in Elm Mott, a New Year’s Eve party at the Waco Convention Center with Cherokee Rose in ’92, Water Works, Brazos Nights at the park, and played the last job in ’93 at RJ’s in Waco (now Uncle Dan’s).

The band re-grouped in ’94 and the decision was made to break for a bit.  Steve began a job a KXXV-TV working nights and weekends, and while the band continued to do private parties only, Hourglass as a band was virtually put on hold until November of ’96.

In December of ’96 Cooper was invited back to drum while Tibbs took a new direction on percussion.  In addition, the decision was made to expand the line-up further and auditions were held to choose a keyboard player.

Hourglass continued in ’96 with a new fresh line-up consisting of Steve, Tibbs, Cooper, Larry and Bland Cromwell on keys.

First job out under the new coat of paint was at Fish Pond in ‘97.

Second was at the Waco Mission in ’97 for a private party. After that, momentum carried through to a Waco Convention Center job in ‘98.
